When Moses failed to come back down the mountain right away, the people went to Aaron. “Look,” they said, “make us some gods who can lead us. This man Moses, who brought us here from Egypt, has disappeared. We don’t know what has happened to him.” Exodus 32:1 NLT 1997 People want to follow. Unsure about that? Consider the many sports teams that have been formed and thrive because people are willing to follow their progress and spend their money to attend games, buy merch, concessions, etc. Not convinced yet? Think about the vast number of social media avenues that people follow: Facebook, Threads, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube – just to name a few. Even a quick Google search yielded this: “… people have a deeply ingrained psychological and evolutionary drive to follow.” And in the passage above, we see the ancient Israelites wanted to follow someone or something so bad that they made something up. Yet are we really much different? After all, someone made the teams, the media accounts, etc. that we follow. It’s in our nature to follow. But who or what we follow matters – greatly! Jesus said to the people, “I am the light of the world. If you follow Me, you won’t be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12 NLT 1977 Do you want to follow Jesus? You may find this Warrior of the Word resource helpful: Light in the Darkness is a devotion reviewing the teachings of Jesus as found in Matthew 5. Available on Amazon, search Tanja Dufrene.

“You’re better than AI,” he said. I suddenly had no more words because his words washed over me like a warm wave soothing sun-soaked achy skin. I think I blushed. Then the words rolled around in my mind for a long time lifting my spirit and wrinkling my eyes as my lips turned upward in an unexpected smile. Four, maybe five words strategically strung together had the power to transform my otherwise heavy day. So, I wonder, how do you use your words? Do they beat down or lift up those who hear them? Let’s be more purposeful with our words and enjoy the transformation that unfolds before our eyes! Make the most of every opportunity. Be gracious in your speech. The goal is to bring out the best in others in a conversation, not put them down, not cut them out. Imagine, if you will, a world with no signs – no stop signs, no yield sings, no speed limit signs – or road signs or bill boards. What if there were no signs to point to stores, gas stations or restaurants? Sounds like navigating to new places would be rather confusing and perhaps a hit or miss adventure. Signs help us navigate and confirm we are making progress to our desired destination. So, let us not overlook the signs God has given us that lead us to the fullness of life He desires us to experience. And here’s one: The LORD then gave these further instructions to Moses: “Tell the people of Israel to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you forever. It helps you remember that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.” Exodus 31:12-13 NLT 1997 God gave us the sign of the Sabbath, a day of rest as the subsequent verses state, as a sign, a reminder that He makes us holy – set apart for His purposes. No longer do we have to be tormented by our seemingly never satisfied desires and pursuits. Instead, as we follow God’s signs, His purpose, seeking Him and His ways, we find our desired destination and soul satisfaction far beyond physical pursuits. What other signs have you discovered in His word? You may also enjoy this resource available on Amazon (by Yvonne Lehman): Lost… And Found, an anthology of stories where something important was lost – whether physical, material, emotional, or spiritual – sometimes as the result of poor navigation and others simply as life events unfolded.
