The late summer morning was lovely with the sun shining. Each day my drive east into the rising sun finds me squinting. And my evening commute home mirrors the experience with the setting sun often in my eyes. On this day, traffic was moderate for my morning commute to the office. A new week was beginning in which battles or blessings would soon unfold.
By mid-morning, a coworker from another area came into my office. Pleasantries were exchanged and he shared his weekend events with delight. I mostly listened then caught him by surprise when I said, “Can we trade?” The puzzled look on his face was priceless. Of course I knew we could not trade our experiences for the others’. His life was lived by his choices and circumstances, as was mine. My feeble attempt to meet with humor what had been a challenging weakened for me ended in chuckles. Yet later I recalled these words:
This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. Psalm 118:24 NIV1984
That Monday morning could have been the start of a very long week. The heaviness from previous days could easily have clouded my mind, overshadowing mood and motions. But a hint of laughter lightened the load. Once again, the truth of God’s Word was on brilliant display like the morning sun where He inspired the writer to pen:
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. Proverbs 17:22 KJV
So as each new days unfolds for you, may the song in your heart, the voice in your ears, and the motions you make lead you closer and closer to God who created you. May you find happiness in His presence this week and in the coming days. Shalom.
