This morning I had a dream where lots of animals had gathered. There were two of each kind reclining and resting in a sandy area. It reminded me of Noah’s ark, as if they were lining up, waiting to board the ark. I specifically saw giraffes. As I looked closely at one, it was on the ground with its longneck stretched out laying on the ground. Its mouth was flat, resting on the dirt with saggy jowls. It was a most unusual sight.
Later I read that giraffes sleep very little, and rarely all the way down on the ground because of the vulnerable position it puts them in against predators. Getting up is not easy or quick. They often sleep while standing. And previously I read they are like watchmen for other animals because of their keen eyesight and ability to see predators far in the distance. These things caused me to remember Jesus said:
“Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. Luke 17:26-27 niv
Like the giraffe in my dream, are there watchmen among us who are sleeping and vulnerable who have abandoned their posts? So let us:
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord rises upon you. See, darkness covers the earth and thick darkness is over the peoples, but the Lord rises upon you and his glory appears over you. Isaiah 60:1-2 niv
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16 niv
