Memorial Day – a holiday to honor those who died while serving in the military forces of the United States of America. Good Friday – a holiday honoring the crucifixion of Jesus. Holidays set aside for remembering those who lived and died for the benefit of others. How might we do the same? Let us consider the words of Jesus:
Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rules of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave – just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:25-28 niv
Let us remember in gratitude those who have served with all that they had. And let us also remember to serve with our lives that one day we, too, may bring honor.
