When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.) John 4:7-9 niv
Likely expecting to be ignored, rejected or faced with judgment, the Samaritan woman questioned Jesus’ request for water. Yet He showed no prejudice. Instead, He engaged in conversation with her and demonstrated His great love and affection for her, even as she lived sinfully.
Perhaps there are many today who also expect to be ignored (overlooked), rejected or judged by those seemingly having a higher sense of morality. Yet for those who are followers of Jesus, let us respond in ways that demonstrate His great love and affection for all, even as many live in a sinful state.
